Employment Opportunity: Marine Mechanic
Holly Bluff Marina is looking for an experienced Marine Mechanic to join our crew. We are a family-owned and operated full service marina on the St. Johns River in DeLand, Florida, that specializes in houseboat rentals and boat repair.
You must be a self-starter with the ability to complete all tasks, unsupervised, in the installation, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, calibration, testing, fabrication, and operation of boats, marine gas engines and generators.
Knowledge of Volvo marine gas engines, Volvo Penta drives, Westerbeke marine gas generators and overall knowledge of mechanics for various types of vessels is a must for this position.

Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic tests, analyze, remove, repair or replace engines, steering, transoms, outdrives, lighting system components and more
- Examine boats and discuss the nature and extent of damage or malfunction with service manager or customer
- Disassemble units and inspect parts for wear
- Overhaul or replace carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, pumps, electrical and fuel systems
- Rewire ignition systems, lights and instrument panels
- Operate a hydraulic jack or hoist as needed
- Ensure all warranty work is completed according to manufacturer guidelines
- Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment and systems
- Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components
- Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery
- Install all types of accessory items
- Maintain detailed records of serviced vessels
- Assist customers by answering specific technical questions to help the customer understand the operation of the unit and the work to be done or work already completed
- Attend technical training to improve proficiency, quality of work and to achieve higher levels of certification
- Water test boats with customers to verify work performed and explain the operation of the product
- Perform rigging as required
- Safely operate vessels of various size and shape
- Maintain a clean and professional work area
- Follow all company policies and procedures
- Perform other duties, assignments and responsibilities as needed
Skills:
- Knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical and other systems and their components
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems in a timely manner
- Effectively use OEM published technical information, both hard copy and online.
- Aptitude in using various hand tools and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)
- Familiar with safe navigation
- Ability to follow established procedures and practices
- Strong commitment to safety guidelines

Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Certification from vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is a definite plus
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with a clean driving record required
Physical Requirements:
To do this job effectively, you must meet certain physical requirements:
- Ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel
- Perform prolonged standing
- Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis
- Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis
- Lift/push/pull items weighing at least 50 lbs. without assistance on a regular basis
- Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing as a minimum includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders and ramps) to access vessels and vessel equipment
- Able to work on ladders, scaffolding, lifts and on top of vessels while hauled out
- Safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment
- Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles
- Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment
- Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (closed toe shoes, safety glasses, ear plugs, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety lines, floatation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards
- Ability to work in inclement weather conditions including heat, humidity, rain and sun
- Able to work in an environment where you are occasionally exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals
- Ability to enter small spaces, openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time
- Able to understand and respond in English to verbal and audible sounds/commands
- Able to utilize adequate visual skills
- Fully extend arms while reaching overhead, out, to the side and down
Job Type:
Full-time / 40 hours per week (Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5pm). Ability to work weekends, holidays and overtime hours may be necessary at times.
